Attivo Trail Residents Volunteer in the Waukee Community

You’d probably imagine retirement as an easy, laid-back adventure after years of hard work. However, for some residents at Attivo Trail Waukee, retirement has opened their eyes to the joys of volunteerism and giving back to the Waukee community.

Attivo Trail residents Judy and Becky, along with several of their friends, volunteer at Waukee Area Christian Services (WACS). This program, organized by Westview Church, includes services such as a food pantry, clothing closet, and health clinic. Waukee Area Christian Services has served the Dallas County community for nearly 19 years.

Judy volunteers most of the time in the Anytime Food Room, a separate area from the WACS food pantry. This room allows WACS clients to receive additional food outside of their Pantry allotment.

Before working in the food pantry, Judy started serving WACS through work in a community garden in 2021. The Fruitful Vine Garden was started in 2009 with the goal of providing fresh produce to the WACS Food Pantry clients.

The garden is a collaborative effort of volunteers, including individuals, families, community groups, and members of the Dallas County Master Gardeners Program. Volunteers of the WACS community garden can “adopt” a section of the garden to care for themselves or stop by occasionally and help water the plants.

Attivo resident Becky enjoys volunteering at the WACS Health Clinic on Monday evenings. The WACS Free Health Clinic is a member of Free Clinics of Iowa and serves the health needs of the community's uninsured and underinsured.

Waukee Area Christian Services has many volunteer opportunities available to serve the needs of Dallas County. Visit their site to discover how to get involved.

Attivo Trail Waukee, although new to the community, is already making a difference through our residents’ drive to create a community where they love to live. We can’t wait to share more stories like Judy and Becky’s as our community grows.
